CALABAR CLASS OF 1983 REUNION Summary

HELD IN JAMAICA SEPEMBER 3-11, 2023.

The Calabar Class of 1983 Reunion that was held in Jamaica during September 3-11, 2023, was a resounding success.

The week of events became with a Church Service at the Boulevard Baptist Church, which was well attended by members of the Class of 1983 and other alumni of the school.

The Tuesday Afternoon Luncheon to honor our past Teachers that was held at the Courtleigh was well supported by all and the School Band that played and serenaded the Teachers was very much appreciated. We also gave the Teachers a sovereign Mug in their honor and reassured them that we will still be participating in their lives going beyond this event.

The Tuesday Night Student link up at Peppa Thyme at Constant Spring was supported by over 60 Class of 1983, and the night of festivities and fun went on into the wee hours of the morning. It was amazing to see guys trying to remember and be reminded of their school days at Calabar. This was priceless.

Wednesday’s Capacity- Building and Mentorship for the Grade 10-11 Students at CALABAR was appreciated and welcomed by the both the Students and Mrs. Jarrett. Our members who attended as speakers and mentors gave the students an opportunity to partake in their knowledge and professional experiences that will be proved useful to them as Students. The Breakfast and Lunch was sessions was both informative and entertaining.

The Reunion Banquet/ Dinner held on Saturday saw the entire Class of 1983 and their families enjoying the evening at RIU Ocho Rios. We had a very good evening of local food and entertaining music and dance. It was a total RABALAC experience and RIU for that moment was a Calabar High School Reggae Party

Sunday Afternoon was a Net-Working and Project Session with the members outlining the possible path the Group will be moving forward in the future. The Executive identified the need to do the necessary post-mortem of the Reunion with the intention to improve on the positives and remedy and change the negatives learnt from the Reunion.

We plan to have a Retreat next month to iron out the suggested proposals that were discussed and these will involve how we incorporate interactions with COBA Jamaica and Actions we plan to take to assist our members and CALABAR in the coming months. We hope to continue to reconnect, ignite for a brighter future with our members to aid our alma mater - CALABAR.
